"I am not occupied with what has been done. I am interested in what needs to be done." – Marie Curie
Patient-centered and clinically relevant research, as well as innovative care, are essential components of healthcare for children with life-threatening illnesses. We aim to make a significant contribution, particularly in the field of childhood cancer.
For this reason, we work closely with the German Society for Pediatric Oncology and Hematology (GPOH) (especially with Prof. Dr. Dirk Reinhardt) and Pediatric Clinic III at the University Hospital Essen. Together, we are committed to addressing the specific needs of critically ill children.
As a non-profit organization, we strive to sustainably improve their situation. We support the advancement of diagnostic methods, research into disease origins, and the development of therapy recommendations and treatment protocols.
Our goal is to significantly improve the chances of recovery for young patients, enhance their quality of life, and, through intensive basic research, deepen the understanding of disease development as well as support potential prevention and early intervention strategies.
For example, therapy optimization studies have contributed to increasing the survival rate of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients to approximately 75% today—whereas 30 years ago, the disease was fatal.
